New From Fran Orenstein
I want to share with you all a poem written by Dr. Fran Orenstein shortly after the tragedy as Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. It is an amazing work that needs to be spread around the globe.
Unfinished Lives
Not an auspicious day
An ordinary winter Friday
A week before the ending
Or the new beginning of the world
Only two days after 12-12-12
A day of ascendance and movement
When meteors raced across the sky
And planets began their prophetic alignment
On this ordinary December day
The world shook in fear and rage
As twenty tiny stars winked out
And darkness fell on unrealized dreams
When hope crashed in a hail of bullets
Unspun dreidls, unopened Chanukah gifts
Hidden Christmas toys waiting in vain
A red bike buried in a box never to be ridden
The unbearable agony of drifting souls
Reaching out for Mommy’s arms
Their unfinished lives
Now only a fantasy
